Wei Shi

Dr Wei Shi is a Senior Research Officer working in the Bioinformatics Division in Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, Melbourne, Australia. He also holds an Honorary Senior Fellow appointment at Department of Computing and Information Systems in The University of Melbourne. Dr Shi's research focuses on developing algorithms for analyzing high-throughput genomic data including next-generation sequencing data and whole genome expression data. He has developed state-of-the-art algorithms for read alignment, read quantification, genomic variation detection and microarray data normalization. His research interest also includes the analyses of RNA-seq and ChIP-seq data and the in-silico discovery of transcription factor binding sites. The computational algorithms he developed have been published in top journals in the Bioinformatics field including Nucleic Acids Research, Bioinformatics and PLoS Computational Biology.
